Meeting with a Ukrainian Partner on the Further Development of the Short-Term Electricity Market
At a working meeting in Bratislava, we welcomed representatives of the Ukrainian company JSC Market Operator, which operates the day-ahead and intraday electricity markets in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian partner was represented by representatives of JSC Market Operator (АТ «Оператор ринку»), including Oleksandr Havva, the company’s CEO. SFÉRA was represented by Michal Minárik, the company’s CEO, and Robert Maier, Product Director.
SFÉRA has been a supplier of IT solutions to Market Operator since 2019. Ukrainian companies reliably use the XMtrade®/PXS platform to buy and sell electricity. The collaboration also includes daily technical support, which ensures the stable operation of the system.
Preparing the Ukrainian market for European integration
The main objective of the meeting was to initiate expert and technical discussions on the further development of the short-term electricity market in Ukraine and to identify specific steps that could contribute to the gradual alignment of the Ukrainian market with European market coupling principles.
The discussion focused primarily on the development of Day-Ahead Market (DAM) functionalities, more efficient trading on the Intraday Market (IDM), and the long-term direction of market platforms in the context of legislative developments and future integration requirements.
“The meeting confirmed our shared interest in continuing professional and technological cooperation, sharing practical experience, and jointly seeking solutions that bring real benefits to the energy market, its participants, and the future integration of European electricity markets,” said Michal Minárik, CEO of SFÉRA.
Special attention was also given to the topic of supporting flexibility trading, including the potential for integrating battery energy storage systems (BESS). The partners discussed the development of software tools that would enable the effective management and trading of flexibility, initially on the Ukrainian market, with the potential for use in a broader regional and European context.
