On October 21, 2014, the new Energy Efficiency Act No. 321/2014 Coll. was adopted, transposing and supplementing Directive 2012/27/EU. This legislation introduces new obligations for Slovak companies aimed at increasing energy efficiency and gradually reducing the overall energy demand of Slovakia. The key obligations include:
- Monitoring, evaluating, and reporting energy efficiency and consumption by energy producers and grid operators
- Tracking and recording the consumption of all types of energy, and submitting annual reports to the monitoring system managed by SIEA (Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency). This obligation applies to public institutions and their subsidiaries, municipalities, regional authorities, energy suppliers, transmission and distribution system operators, owners of buildings with a total floor area over 1,000 m², housing associations, and property managers
- Implementing measures to increase energy efficiency
- Enabling and ensuring the execution of energy audits in large enterprises
- Publishing information on energy consumption structure and history for end users by energy suppliers
